Religious music does not have to be bad but in this case, with it 1980′s like power ballads, simplistic lyrics and unimaginative songwriting, bad it is. Remember just becouse you open your heart to Jesus it does not mean you have to close your mind to quality and complixity. Amen

I have never heard worse lyrics in my life. How many people have ever sat down and asked “Oprah what to do”? The whole song, “What if His People Prayed” begs the question, if you were worried about whether or not people are praying why are you singing a song about it? If people are listening to your song, then they are not praying.
My guess is the money is better this way.

I was looking forward to seeing this band in concert after hearing one of their songs on the radio – Who Am I, which has decent lyrics and a pretty good beat. But the rest of the songs, at least the ones they played in concert, were pretty generic, some were downright repetitive and a couple were awful.
All their songs have muddled lyrics – in one of the songs, there are several references to “he” which gets confusing because there’s no way to tell to whom the song writer was referring, and in another it’s hard to tell what is meant when they sing “Jesus paid much too high a price/For us to pick and choose who should come.” Is there a big problem with people not being welcomed in church, in the Bible belt? Most churches seem to try to do whatever they can to get new members. In yet another song they make a reference to school prayer – “And what would happen if we prayed/For those raised up to lead the way/Then maybe kids in school could pray,” revealing a fundamentalist agenda. And another lyric goes “Your fragrance is intoxicating in our secret place/Your love is extravagant.” Our secret place? Sounds pretty creepy, especially considering that the lead singer is a youth pastor.
Overall, the message comes across as “Christian lite.” Which I’m disappointed with this group – it’s a waster of some fine talent. The vocals, guitars, and drums are all good and one of the band members even plays violin, which is a great off-beat touch.

I recently purchased this album based on the reviews that were posted. I also recently ejected it and threw it away. I have come across a lot of great christian music lately, music that touches on God’s greatest and most intimate qualities. This album does nothing more than to talk about the manmade aspects of religion and bash churches across the board. I don’t know what kind of church these guys are coming from, but I don’t want that as my approach to christianity. I have been to the fringe churches where they rail against every denomination that doesn’t have the inside track, and they miss the point of God’s love.
This is the only review I’ve ever written, but when the other reviews skew the truth so much, it had to be said. Check out artists like Shane Barnard and Shane Everett for wonderful christian music that will have you spending hours in communion with the Lord.

Frankly, this album sucks. This isn’t punk for one, nor is it even similar to cheap punk bands like Green Day. It’s far worse. How did this get to #3 on whatever Amazon list it’s on? No real punk or anyone who has respect for the punk-rock scene would ever be caught dead listening to this.
