Raised my blood pressure, hurt my ears. This is the jazz equivalent of bad rap.
Can I get my money back?

I listened to the Preview before I bought it and, in the preview, I probably only made it through the first six or seven tracks – it sounded interesting so I bought it. Once you get the album though it’s not nearly as tight overall as those first few songs. Fallin’ is a great example – it is just a bad R&B song that is a blatant attempt to crossover. There are a few like that – it really undermines the entire album. People who like Fallin’ won’t like the hard edginess of the next track, The Cure. People who like The Cure will hate Fallin’. I liked neither track but I can appreciate parts of The Cure; Fallin’, to me, is just pop candy.

Beeing a trombonist myself I was thrilled to recieve this CD with trombone pictures all over, but had to wait 5 cuts to hear the first trombone solo, and found myself liking the trumpet playing much better. The beats are all similar loud new orleans type marching beats mixed with rock or hip-hop, which I understand from this artist, but left me with a strange new genre for sure, but an odd mix of loud horn section type licks instead of intemit horn playing I was hoping for. Too many songs streched in too many directions for this listener, I’m sure the singing is fine but he’s billing himself as “trombone shorty”. I dont feel the artist has to depart that far from from new orleans jazz and backround roots in order to generate more rock and hiphop fans, the fans will come, sounds like more folks wanted the last naked horn cut to go longer also. I do give Andrew credit for thinking Outside the box, pursuing his vision with his bandmates, and his national touring, I’m trying to like this cd by playing more, but trombone wise it’s leaving me very empty, I need more Jack Teagarden please.

I stumbled into this guy (and his band). So, this is what a New Orleans band sounds like? Interesting…I must go there…soon!
I rate this collection: 4 stars!

I don’t really want to write a thoughtful review (gotta get back to the music), but wanted to rate it. LOVE it! Wonderful music and vocals…creative, interesting, and lively album. Who wouldn’t love Trombone Shorty? Hope there will be LOTS more to follow!
