This is the most unimaginative sounding album ever. Whiny voices, depressing ECT. If you want the song White Rabbit buy the Grace Slick version, at least she has talent. I miss Walt!!!

This is only a bunch of vomitive and depressingly commercial emo bands and singers. the great story of Lewis Carrol and the beautiful treatment that Tim Burton gave it deserve better music. Nightwish would have been a greater choice, their music is massive, operatic and symphonic and would have portrayed better the feeling of the story and movie.

I bought this in Best Buy thinking it was the soundtrack. I should have done research online first, but what can I say, it was an impulse buy.
It’s not the soundtrack, not even close. It is rock singers spewing verses about ALICE to close to the microphone. No offense to anyone who likes this type of music, but I was looking for something to write to, not head bang.
Just don’t be fooled. This is not the soundtrack.

I can’t believe that Tim Burton allowed this to be attached to his movie. With the exception of Robert Smith, Franz Ferdinand and Plain White T’s, who were at least interesting, this album is terrible.
Don’t waste your money, and if you value your ears Don’t listen to the Avril Lavigne track.

In anticipation of Tim Burton’s “Alice in Wonderland” the film’s marketing department has commissioned a ‘Music Inspired By The Movie’ album, which would make sense, since story kind of has some goth and emo elements to it, and Tim Burton is considered a God in both circles. Also note that the album is populated from a bunch of hot top 40 bands that are more than capable of making a great song. Thus, will the album be a delicious pop/rock/emo fest in the vein of the New Moon soundtrack from last year, or will it be a whiny misfired mess that follows the white rabbit of boredom? Looks like I’ll have to bring in a Clint Eastwood film to help review this album.
The Good (These songs aren’t great, but there is potential & fans of these artists should check these songs out):
Alice
The Technicolor Phase
Painting Flowers
Fell Down A Hole
White Rabbit
Avril does a nice job with “Alice,” even though she does over-sing it to say the least, but it does make for a good credits song. But probably the highlight here is a cover of “White Rabbit” by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. The group just adds a great energy to the song, and with this being the first time I’ve heard of the group, they impressed me immensely with their musical chops. Only problem is the song is too short.
The Bad (Ill conceived, misfired, generally unmemorable/boring and/or odd without reason):
The Poison
Strange
Very Good Advice
In Transit
Welcome To Mystery
The Lobster Quadrille
Running Out of Time
This category speaks for itself since as you look back in your mind, you can’t seem to remember a single song here. They’re mostly boring, but the cover of “Very Good Advice” by The Cure’s Robert Smith seems like it was conceived in a drug-induced haze of oddness for the sake of being odd, since hey, this is the music inspired by Alice In Wonderland. There’s no reason for most of what is going on here, but hey, you won’t remember them after an hour, so why bother.
The Ugly (There is nothing good about these songs & the artists who made them should be ashamed of themselves):
Her Name Is Alice
Where’s My Angel
Follow Me
Tea Party
These songs are simply unlistenable. You can see the mark they were trying to hit, but they miss it so much it’s simply stunning. Trust me, these songs are simply awful both musically & otherwise. But don’t worry, you’ll remember this batch of songs, if only because they’ll annoy the heck out of you. Also, apparently this artist Kerli is Europe’s answer to Ke$ha, and after listening to her appear on TWO songs on this album, I can see why she hasn’t achieved any popularity here. She’s devoid of talent.
Overall, while not totally devoid of quality work, it comes pretty close with an array of lazy songs that simply do not work on almost any level. With these types of albums I’m not looking for songs that expresses the themes of the movie, I’m looking for work that does justice to the artist, at least sounding as good as their usual output. Few of the songs achieve this goal, and thus ‘Almost Alice’ meets its downfall. If you’re a fan of any of these artists, I suggest you preview the album first, but more than likely you’ll come away disappointed. So don’t follow this White Rabbit unless you just want a migraine.
